First spam comment
Today I received my first spammy negative comment. It came from a mediaminer user in response to "We Begin at the End", a Harry/Draco vampire fic I did for an exchange at [info]hpvamp some time ago. I know logically I shouldn't be so upset about it, because it was bound to happen sooner or later and in fact, it's really quite amazing that it's taken so long for me to receive one. I never should have replied to the person in the first place, I know, because where there's prejudice there's really no reason.

Anyhow, here's what happened. I'm going to get the whole thing off my chest and hopefully it won't bother me anymore.

This person left me a comment where they accused me of incorrectly labeling my fic. It was something to the effect of "this is yaoi not a one shot *insert some curse words and bad spelling*"

I replied explaining that it is categorized as a one shot because it is not multichaptered, and I do have the fic categorized as yaoi under "fic type" so the persons complaint was moot. I then told this person that there was an option on mediaminer that allowed them to exclude yaoi fic from their results, and asked them to not leave uninformed comments on people's fic.

This person replied (again, very rude, called me names) and said that they'd done that and my fic had shown up any way (called me more rude names). And then they said some more rude stuff I'd rather not dwell on.

I'm not going to reply to this person again, obviously. I don't know if it will do any good, but I contacted mediaminer via their all-purpose contact form and explained the situation. Since I had already deleted the comment by then I wasn't able to copy it, but I did copy in both my e-mail and the other person's response. I made it clear in my message that I did not intend to reply to this person again, and that I was concerned that this person might be harassing other members. I also said, more than once, and if the staff member noticed any sort of incorrect labeling on my fic to please tell me and I would fix it. I don't know if mediaminer involves themselves in personal disputes, and if I don't hear from this person again and they're not bothering anyone else then I suppose it doesn't matter. Mediaminer allows anonymous reviews, so even if this person's account was suspended they could still comment. But I still really wanted to do something about the whole situation and this was all I could come up with. Sad, I know. Anyhow, here's to hoping I won't hear from this person again.

Definitely sounds like this person was just out to harrass you. It's hard not to take those kinds of "reviews" (and I use the term loosely, since obviously this person wasn't concerned with giving a thoughtful commentary on your fic) personally - it stings when someone blasts something you've created, especially when they're just being hateful. I wouldn't give this person another thought if I were you - he/she/whatever is certainly not worthy of your time or consideration.

PS - Harry/Draco vamp fic?!? I'm marking that one down to read later! I don't usually read on mediaminer, but I'll check it out on my downtime! Or is it on your LJ?

If you go to my userinfo, you can find links to all of my fic. I've not written much, and from reviews I actually get the impression that my best fic is "Little Bits of Light", which is a Sirius/Remus marauders-era vampire fic. It's also the only one that doesn't have a sex scene, which I suppose ought to tell me something in regards to my strengths in writing.
Whenever you are in the mood for vampire fic I highly, highly recommend the [info]hpvamp lj community. They do exchanges roughly twice a year, always with very good results. I believe that you can find lists of all the fic done in their exchanges somewhere on the community.

Sorry this doesn't actually pertain to the post...I saw somewhere that you have My Man Friday somewhere, and I've been trying desperately to find a copy. Could you possibly e-mail it to me, or maybe direct me to where I can find it? Thank you SOOOO much. Oh, and don't let negative comments get you down. Ignorant people abound, and because of the anonymity of the internet, they feel that it's OK to be incredibly rude to people. Something I have never understood. Whatever happened to common decency? Anyway, you shouldn't take it personally. It clearly wasn't your fault. :)
