First spam comment
Today I received my first spammy negative comment. It came from a mediaminer user in response to "We Begin at the End", a Harry/Draco vampire fic I did for an exchange at
hpvamp some time ago. I know logically I shouldn't be so upset about it, because it was bound to happen sooner or later and in fact, it's really quite amazing that it's taken so long for me to receive one. I never should have replied to the person in the first place, I know, because where there's prejudice there's really no reason.
Anyhow, here's what happened. I'm going to get the whole thing off my chest and hopefully it won't bother me anymore.
This person left me a comment where they accused me of incorrectly labeling my fic. It was something to the effect of "this is yaoi not a one shot *insert some curse words and bad spelling*"
I replied explaining that it is categorized as a one shot because it is not multichaptered, and I do have the fic categorized as yaoi under "fic type" so the persons complaint was moot. I then told this person that there was an option on mediaminer that allowed them to exclude yaoi fic from their results, and asked them to not leave uninformed comments on people's fic.
This person replied (again, very rude, called me names) and said that they'd done that and my fic had shown up any way (called me more rude names). And then they said some more rude stuff I'd rather not dwell on.
I'm not going to reply to this person again, obviously. I don't know if it will do any good, but I contacted mediaminer via their all-purpose contact form and explained the situation. Since I had already deleted the comment by then I wasn't able to copy it, but I did copy in both my e-mail and the other person's response. I made it clear in my message that I did not intend to reply to this person again, and that I was concerned that this person might be harassing other members. I also said, more than once, and if the staff member noticed any sort of incorrect labeling on my fic to please tell me and I would fix it. I don't know if mediaminer involves themselves in personal disputes, and if I don't hear from this person again and they're not bothering anyone else then I suppose it doesn't matter. Mediaminer allows anonymous reviews, so even if this person's account was suspended they could still comment. But I still really wanted to do something about the whole situation and this was all I could come up with. Sad, I know. Anyhow, here's to hoping I won't hear from this person again.
